Ukraine MiG-29 jet crashes

Kiev (dpa) — A Ukrainian MiG-29 combat jet crashed while landing after a sortie, killing the pilot, the Ukrainian general staff reported on Saturday.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

The MiG-29, which dates back to the Soviet era, forms the basis of Ukraine’s small air force, which has received aircraft of the same type from Poland and Slovakia since the full-scale Russian invasion in February 2022.

The air force also reported attacks by 49 Russian drones overnight, 36 of which had been intercepted. Strikes in seven locations were reported, and air raid sirens sounded in Kiev during the morning.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said air defences were in operation and that one drone fell onto a road.
