strike at the Louvre partially continued
Paris (dpa) — The strike at the Louvre museum in Paris is partially continuing, with some halls potentially remaining closed, the museum said on Wednesday.
The French newspaper Libération reported that the management confirmed the museum was open. The first visitors had already entered its rooms, although not all areas were accessible, the report said.
Shortly before, around 300 Louvre employees had voted for a second day of strike action. Already on Monday, the museum had remained closed due to the strike.
The unions had called for the industrial action to protest against ongoing staff shortages, insufficient resources and the structural condition of the museum. On Tuesday, the museum was closed as usual.
The strike follows several incidents at the museum: In October, crown jewels worth approximately €88 million ($103 million) were stolen, with no trace of them yet. In November, an outdated gallery had to be closed, and a water leak caused damage to hundreds of specialist journals and documents in the library for Egyptian antiquities.
