Pakistan’s Foreign Minister
Islamabad (dpa) — The Pakistani foreign minister is planning to travel to Washington for talks as part of his country’s mediation efforts in the Iran conflict.
Ishaq Dar is expected in the US capital on Friday following meetings in New York, his ministry has announced. A meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is planned.
In addition to bilateral relations, the talks are set to focus on Pakistan’s efforts to bring peace to the region.
Israel and the US attacked Iran three months ago. A ceasefire has been in place in the war since early April when Pakistan hosted peace talks. However, initial negotiations ended without a breakthrough.
There have been renewed reports of a possible agreement between the US and Iran. However, mutual attacks in the Gulf are fuelling fears of further escalation.
