Meloni Assures Zelensky of Continued Support Ahead of London Talks

Meloni assured Zelensky of support

Rome (dpa) — Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has pledged further support to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky against Russia’s war in a phone call ahead of his meeting with other European partners in London on Monday, according to her office.

The right-wing leader accused Moscow of a “new series of indiscriminate attacks by Russia against Ukrainian civilian targets,” her office said on Sunday.

Italy will deliver additional supplies, including generators, to support energy infrastructure and the Ukrainian population, her office said, adding that the goal remains a lasting and just peace.

Meloni is not taking part in Monday’s meeting in London. Those attending are British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

The United States and Ukraine had been engaged in discussions on a possible peace plan for three days until Saturday. Before that, envoys of US President Donald Trump were in Moscow.

Meloni also assured her support for the ongoing negotiations and the engagement of the US, her office said.
