Large Scale Naval Maneuvers Near the Aleutian Islands

According to ANS and other sources, last week the US conducted large naval patrols near the Aleutian Islands. headline news

Reportedly, those patrols were responses to patrols by Russian and Chinese naval vessels near Alaska’s Aleutian Islands.

It was reported in The Wall Street Journal that US officials maintained that US patrols in that area were conducted after Chinese & Russian vessels had come close the island chain.

Still, official said that never did those vessels enter US territorial waters. Even so, Chinese and Russian vessels left the area, they said.

For its part, Russia’s Defense Ministry maintained that Chinese & Russian vessels had conducted exercises that invovled helicopter landings and takeoffs as well as exercises that involved ways to counter submarines and communications training.

In response, the US dispatched four U.S. destroyers and P-8 Poseidon aircraft & reconnaisance aircraft, a US official said.

A Chinese representative said that the exercises were not directed at the United States and have been conducted on previous occasions. He acknowledged that patrols and exercises have been conducted in waters in the western and northern Pacific Ocean.

According to ANS, in September, Russia and China conducted joing exercises.

At that time, in response, the Coast Guard sent vessels to the arear near the Aleutian Islands.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. who is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, had expressed dismay and concern over the incident in September.

Reportedly, following September’s incident, Mr. Sullivan expressed the need for a stronger response.

Whereas in September the Coast Guard was dispatched, after the most recent incident of Chinese and Russian naval patrols, US destroyers and reconnaisance aircraft were sent in response.

A number of observers have expressed concern that the world is coming closer to another world war.
