Ramallah (dpa) — Israeli soldiers shot and killed two 14-year-olds in the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank, Palestinian health officials reported on Monday.

Two other Palestinians were injured, one of them seriously, the Palestinian Health Ministry in Ramallah reported.

The Israeli military stated, when asked, that it was reviewing the report.

Several residents of the city’s refugee camp were attempting to retrieve belongings from their homes when the Israeli army opened fire on them, Palestinian media reported. The Israeli military has been operating in the northern West Bank since the beginning of the year, claiming it is targeting terrorist organizations in the area.

Many residents of the refugee camp, considered a stronghold of militant Palestinians, have fled.

The situation in the occupied West Bank has worsened since the Hamas massacre in southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which triggered the Gaza war. Since then, 975 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military operations, armed clashes, and their own attacks, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

On Monday morning two Palestinians killed at least six people in Jerusalem. The attackers were subsequently shot dead. At the same time, there has been an increase in violence by radical Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
