Tel Aviv (dpa) — Israel’s military has issued an “urgent” warning instructing civilians to evacuate three Houthi-controlled ports in western Yemen.
The message, delivered in Arabic on X on Sunday, urged people to avoid the ports of Ras Issa, Hudaida and Salif for their own safety.
There was a major Israeli attack on the international airport in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, on Tuesday after a missile launched by Houthi militants landed near the international airport outside Tel Aviv.
Prior to that airstrike, the Israeli military had also ordered evacuations in the vicinity of the Sana’a airport.
Since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, Yemen’s Houthis have launched frequent rocket and drone attacks on Israel in support of Hamas. In response, the Israeli Air Force has targeted Houthi positions in Yemen.
US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday a halt to US strikes on Houthi targets; Oman later said it had mediated a ceasefire agreement. The Houthis expressed willingness to observe a truce with the US, so long as Washington adhered to it. However, their stance toward Israel remains openly hostile.
