Beirut & Tel Aviv (dpa) — At least 12 people, including five Hezbollah members, were killed on Tuesday when Israeli airstrikes hit militant positions in eastern Lebanon, according to Lebanese state media.

The Lebanese state news agency NNA reported that a camp housing displaced Syrians was also struck. Seven of the dead were reportedly Syrian nationals, and eight others were wounded.

Israeli fighter jets targeted military sites in the Bekaa Valley used by the Iran-backed Hezbollah for training, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.

“The military compounds that were struck were used by the Hezbollah terrorist organization for training and exercising terrorists to plan and carry out terrorist attacks against IDF troops and the State of Israel,” the IDF stated.

“As part of the terrorists’ exercises and training at these military sites, the terrorists carried out drills for gunfire combat and the use of various weapons,” it added.

Lebanese security sources said Israeli warplanes conducted more than 10 strikes on multiple locations in the early hours of Tuesday.

Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire in November 2024 after more than a year of cross-border attacks, but Israeli forces continue to strike targets in Lebanon. Both sides accuse the other of violating the truce.
