Iran’s foreign minister
Moscow (dpa) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected in Moscow on Monday for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian state media on Sunday.
Shortly beforehand, Russia’s Foreign Ministry in Moscow had reported Araghchi’s plans to visit without giving further details.
Moscow and Tehran are strategic allies, however, Russia is not prepared to support its partner militarily in the current conflict with the United States, and Tehran is currently only receiving diplomatic backing from the Kremlin.
Araghchi travelled to Islamabad for a brief visit on Sunday to again convey Iran’s conditions for ending the war to Pakistani mediators, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported.
It remains unclear when, and even if, there will be a new round of negotiations between Iran and the US in Pakistan.
