Putin spoke Ukraine negotiations
Moscow (dpa) — Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed doubts about the resumption of negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
At a cultural forum in St Petersburg on Friday, the Russian president said that proposals aimed at a “so-called peace settlement” and a proposal to resume negotiations were on the table, and that anything was possible.
“But after everything they have done, we will still have to think very carefully about what we need to do in response,” Putin said, referring to Ukrainian counter-attacks.
He criticized Ukraine in particular for its attacks on Russia during last weekend’s parliamentary elections. Russia was forced to respond, he said. Putin himself had ordered the large-scale invasion of Ukraine at the end of February 2022.
Putin spoke Ukraine negotiations
Washington has long been striving to bring an end to Russia’s war of aggression. After negotiations had stalled for several months, the US recently made a fresh attempt, though so far without any tangible progress.
Ukraine has emphasized on several occasions that it is prepared to agree to a limited ceasefire, which Russia has repeatedly denied. Putin has now interpreted Ukraine’s willingness to do so as a reaction to Russian attacks.
